In my own practice, I am interested in finding a balance between realism and abstraction, with emphasis on human ethics and responsibility. Painting remains relevant in the world because it maintains an independent language that can often communicate more effectively than words. I wish to better understand how colour choice, brushstroke and other expressive decisions can connect with the viewer. My practice most recently has been a response to loss, and the search for structure amongst a time of instability. Connecting with the architecture of the city, and the idea of rebuilding has served as a poetic metaphor for this search.
